The FBM233 Redundant Field Device System Integrator (FDSI) module provides an Ethernet interface between a single or two-port field I/O device and the EcoStruxure™ Foxboro™ DCS.


Each FBM233 module has an RJ-45 connector (10/100Mbps copper Ethernet connection) on the front end that can be used to connect dual-port Ethernet devices.


The FBM233 connects to an Ethernet switch or hub to communicate with one external device or up to 64 external devices.


The combination of a pair of modules provides redundancy at the field bus module (FBM) level.


In this configuration, one FBM233 is the master station and the other is the tracking module.


The input point on the control station receives device input point updates from the network connected to the master station.


The device output point (depending on the I/O driver) is written by both the master and trace modules.


If the I/O driver detects a problem (such as any device losing its heartbeat), it automatically switches roles, and the user can switch roles at any time through the SMDH. Functional characteristics


The FBM233 provides the following functions


- Redundant 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps Ethernet network transfer rate between field devices


- Can communicate with up to 64 field devices


- I/O software drivers can be downloaded from the available protocol library


- Up to 2000 DCI block connections


- Use Ethernet connectivity to integrate field device data into Foxboro DCS control database


- On-site installation


- Level G3 (Harsh) environment.


I/O drivers


The FBM is a universal Ethernet hardware module that can be loaded with different software drivers.


These drivers configure the FBM to recognize the specific protocol used by the device.


Some of these software drivers are standard products. Other custom drivers can be developed according to specific needs.


These drivers are dynamically downloaded to the FBM233 and their software code is specifically designed for protocol interfaces with third-party devices.


The configuration steps and software requirements for each driver are related to the device integrated into the system.


Ethernet link setup


The FBM233 communicates with field devices through the RJ-45 port on the front end of the FBM233 module.


The RJ-45 connector of the FBM233 can be connected to field devices via a hub or Ethernet switch.


The FBM233 connects to an Ethernet switch or hub to communicate with one or up to 64 external devices.


allocator


The FDSI configurator can set the FBM233 port and the XML-based device profile.


The port configurator makes it easy to set communication parameters (such as Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), IP address) for each port.


Not all devices need to use a device configurator, but it can configure device-specific and point-specific considerations when needed


(such as the scan rate, the address of the data to be transferred, and the amount of data to be transferred in a single transaction).
