The AC 800PEC is the perfect way to combine the system design capabilities of ABB ControlIT with the control and simulation capabilities of MATLAB®/Simulink®. Rapid implementation of complex control algorithms, such as model predictive control, reduces development cycles and costs. In addition, the system is open to future technologies. The implementation of the AC800PEC software at three performance levels provides a special set of control and communication functions:
Level 1: Systems Engineering (ControlIT) ABB's ControlIT supports all five IEC61131-3 programming languages and uses ABB's control Builder as a programming tool. This is the level at which systems engineers implement features that do not require high-speed performance, but need to be quickly and easily adapted to a specific project. The AC 800PEC controller can also be fully integrated into ABB's 800xA automation system.
Level 2: Product and Control Development (MATLAB/Simulink™) Fast Closed loop control applications are designed using MATLAB®/Simulink®. The C code is automatically generated and downloaded to the embedded device using MathWorks® Real Time Workshop®. Typically, control developers will implement control, protection, state machines, and other functions at this level.
Level 3: Communication and Fast Logic (VHDL) Programming extremely fast processes with VHDL. Protocols and some control logic requiring extremely short cycle times are implemented at this level. Standardized tasks are available as firmware modules and are not accessible to application developers.
