The combined generator control module (CGCM unit) is a microprocessor based control and protection device.

CGCM units can be integrated with Logix series programmable controllers to provide generator control, protection and synchronization.

With programmability of system parameters, adjustment Settings and protection functions, CGCM units can be used in a wide range of applications.

Feature

The following sections outline the capabilities of the device.

Generator regulation and control functions

This list includes generator regulation and control functions:

- Four excitation control modes

- Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR)

- Manual or field current Regulation (FCR)

- Power Factor (PF)

- Reactive Power (VAR)

- Soft start voltage increase via adjustable ramp in AVR and FCR control modes

- Limit overexcitation (OEL) and underexcitation (UEL) in AVR, VAR and PF control modes

- Underfrequency compensation (volts/Hertz)

- Line drop compensation

- Automatic tracking between running modes and between redundant CGCM units

- Automatic transfer to standby CGCM units in redundant systems

- Parallel generators with reactive drop compensation or cross current (reactive differential) compensation

- Generators in parallel with actual power load sharing

- One or two circuit breakers are synchronized

input

This list contains inputs for CGCM devices:

- Single phase or three phase real root mean square generator voltage detection

- Single-phase double bus or three-phase single bus voltage detection

- Three-phase generator current detection (1 or 5 A nominal value)

- Single phase cross current loop 1 or 5 A current transformer (CT) input

- Auxiliary ±10V DC input for remote control of set points

- DC power input

exportation

This list contains the output of CGCM devices:

- Pulse width modulated output power level with rated current of 15 A

- Discrete redundant relay output

- Discrete fault output driver

- Load sharing connection for use with Allen-Bradley Line synchronization module (1402-L)

Synchronization module (1402-LSM) or load sharing connection used by compatible hardware

Communication interface

CGCM devices have three communication ports:

- Redundant ControlNet connectors

- RS-232 port for dedicated communication with redundant CGCM

- RS-232 port for factory configuration and testing (not for customer use)

Exciting power supply

Whether connected to the generator output (parallel excitation) or the permanent magnet generator, the excitation power is connected to the permanent magnet generator terminal.

The parallel excitation input is connected to the voltage transformer (VT).

The input end of the permanent magnet generator is located on TB1, marked with the permanent magnet generator A, permanent magnet generator B and permanent magnet generator C respectively, indicating their respective phase relationships.

The single-phase excitation power supply must be connected to terminals PMG A and PMG C. A twisted pair shielded cable is required at the input end of a permanent magnet generator.
