Woodward's 8200-1300 provides digital control for steam turbines. It is one of several digital governors available in the 505 turbine control series. The device uses a standards-compliant LVDC (18-32 VDC) power supply.

The device can be used in non-hazardous places. It also applies to the A/B/C/D Group 1 Zone 2 location. The unit is usually installed with copper strand field wiring with a temperature rating of at least 75 degrees Celsius.

The 8200-1300 can control a single - or two-stage split-run turbine. It can be configured as part of a factory DCS (Distributed control System) or used as a stand-alone unit. It has designed five PID controllers, including speed/load PID controllers, cascade PID controllers, and AUX1 and AUX2 PID controllers. The unit provides an operator control panel comprising a graphical control panel display and keyboard. The panel includes an emergency stop button, start, stop, esc, and home buttons, a numeric keypad, up/down toggle buttons, and an input key with up/down and left/right buttons. There are also four indicators on the left side of the panel, including CPU health, IO lock, summary alarm, and summary trip.

Internally, the 8200-1300 includes a watchdog timer and a CPU fault circuit to monitor the operation of the microprocessor and its memory.
